Legal Administrator (Northern Suburbs, Cape Town)

Our client in the debt collection industry requires the services of an experienced and qualified Legal Administrator to join their legal department. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of the legal process pertaining to the debt collections process, works methodically and pays great attention to detail.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Updating comments & legal statuses of incoming posts on the system and handing over accounts to the drafters

  • Finalising financial / general queries from sheriff & correspondents while referring court queries to the legal department team leader

  • Emailing and handing the tax invoices from sheriff & correspondents to the financial department while updating relevant system notes

  • Handling and resolving queries from clients

  • Updating correspondent details on service address sheet

  • Updating legal action & grouping on the system

  • Attending to tasks and requests from the department manager

  • Forwarding documentation on defended matters to the team leader

  • Completing invoicing on client books

  • Updating the invoice summary

  • Identifying new correspondent attorneys & negotiate tariff fees

  • Following up on documents not received from sheriffs

  • Following up on documents not received from correspondent attorney

  • Printing Section129 letters on new handovers

  • Preparing & amending the correspondent sheet for invoicing

  • Ensuring that documents match correspondent invoices

  • Sending invoice summary for the month to the financial department

Minimum Qualifying Criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

  • Relevant Diploma / Degree would be advantageous

  • 5 Years Minimum Experience required with sound knowledge of legal processing relating to the debt collections environment

  • Excellent Written and Spoken Communication Skills

  • Ability to work daily on Microsoft Office Products, including Word & especially Excel

  • Ability to work well in a team, with team targets and deadlines

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Good Numerical and Accountancy Skills

  • Hard-working and enthusiastic
